![]() This was quite an intense album which had an epic feel about it at times but still retained a sense of intimacy, vulnerability and beauty. “Jaws Of Hell” closes out the album and begins with a delightful double bass being played before the vocals are sprinkled above, as it evolves more instruments are added to flush out the sound. The penultimate track “Boxes” is a real slow burner that builds up as the song progresses. “Strange Like I” is quite ethereal and a little hypnotic, slightly otherworldly at times. The next couple of tracks “Radar” and Tank Wave” are quite haunting, very moody, atmospheric and intense but at the same time compelling. “Play Dead” is a poignant, deep and expressive song, which is followed by “Dust & Bones” a more upbeat offering, which again is another song about reflecting on life. ![]() We get a Springsteenesque tune with “Diamond Days which tipped a hat to Bruce`s `I`m On Fire` wonderfully stripped back, a very reflective track. ![]() A song made for an audience to sing along to, holding their phones up, illuminating an arena. “Rattlesnakes” is piano-led song that wouldn`t be out of place in a Coldplay set. These become real growers the more you play them. The music is quite synthesised with the vocals very distanced and remote. The next couple of tracks “Black Mire” and “What If You Fall In” are quite eerie offerings. A brave move to open with such a moving song but it seems to work well with David`s haunting vocals pitched over a quiet guitar melody. The album opens with the extremely personal title track “Things Will Matter”, a live favourite which was not featured on the album of the same name, frontman David Jakes tackles his relationship with his father and addresses mortality in an emotive song. ![]() `Things Will Matter (Redux)` is the band`s latest effort, which comes in the shape of a reworked “Redux” edition of their hugely popular second LP “Things will Matter”. Lonely The Brave are an alternative / indie rock band from Cambridge formed in 2008 who comprise Mark Trotter (guitar), Gavin Edgeley (drums), David Jakes (lead vocalist), Andrew Bushnen (bass), and Ross Smithwick (guitar) who joined the band in 2014. When it came time for someone to run the rule over the new version of Lonely The Brave’s second record, it had to be a job for Damian
